How Facebook ads can work for your Facebook business page
You may have heard of the “Facebook algorithm” which is a complex computer program that decides what you see on Facebook. You have some control over your personal feed in your news feed settings where you can manage your favourite people and pages to see their posts higher in your news feed. You can also unfollow or reconnect and even snooze someone whose posts have been annoying you!
So what does this mean for your business page?
The reality is that unless someone takes the time to manage their favourites and you happen to make it into their limit of 30 choices (including their friends and family), then you probably won’t be seen in their news feed. 2021 statistics reveal that the average engagement rate for Facebook posts is 0.18%^, up to 0.52% for smaller pages with less than 10,000 fans.
What actually is engagement?
Engagement is any action someone takes on your page or one of your posts, such as a like, comment, share, save, video view and link click. The engagement rate with your posts helps organic reach, meaning that your posts are more likely to be seen in the news feed of a Facebook user who likes your page.
"Organic Facebook posts can be like cooking an amazing meal for the family, only to find out that everyone has made other plans for dinner that night!"
Can’t I just boost with the button?
Boosting a post is not best practice as it’s a basic user tool that doesn’t make the most of the money you are spending. We utilise all the features available in Ads Manager for post engagement, website traffic and video views. That way we choose who sees your post or ad and where and when they see it. The Facebook algorithm is also at work for you here by placing the post/ad in front of people most likely to take action, whether it be engaging with your post, or clicking through to “Learn More” or “Book Now”.
How much should I spend?
An advertising budget on Facebook can be as simple as $100 a month to get your posts out there, but a more effective amount to run ads is $300-$400 a month. Of course, the more you spend the better your results.
