Oh, how Social Media has evolved!

In 2012, Kath shared a blog post about how interesting Social Media has affected the way we communicate (below). So much has changed in a measly 9 years, right?!
We think the way Social Media has impacted the way we communicate has been like a double edged sword in some ways. On a personal level, when was the last time you received a hand written letter or a long conversation over the phone? BUT, how many long lost friends have you been in contact with over the years whom you wouldn't have been able to reach previously. How many funny memes and smiles on faces have you been able to put? Sharing beautiful images and video to family and friends whom may be too far away to visit?
In the business world, it has meant a much larger reach to customers, potential customers, and to be able to quickly obtain updates on rapid changing situations (from credible sources we might add). We have been able to share so many of our clients’ achievements, mishaps, funny antics and the not so good times with their guests. It has been amazing! The level of support from their guests, suppliers and even competitors has been phenomenal. Have you shared with your guests lately?
"It is interesting in discussions about Social Media that I have often heard it is ruining the way we communicate. Is it?
I have just sent an email to a family friend that I lost contact with over ten years ago. She found me via Facebook.
There was no falling out with this friend, no reason for us to stop communicating. There was just a fading that often happens with life. I moved away from our home town and visits back are now rare. She sent me a letter several years ago that I did not receive. Yesterday her husband popped up on my Facebook profile via a mutual friend and it has been lovely to catch up with her news and share mine. I have had the same experience with school friends and past work mates. All found via Facebook.
So, for today at least, Facebook has improved the communication in my life and allowed me to reconnect with someone that I care about. It works for me."
